The Holliston Newcomers Club

Officer's Notes

From the Outgoing President - Barb Daly:

I really cannot believe I am writing my last newsletter article as president. It is no exaggeration to say that it seems like yesterday that I was writing my first! I am so happy and proud to have been given the chance to be president of this wonderful organization and I thank you all for the support and friendship you have given me over the past year. This past year’s board is an amazing group of people, filled with energy and dedication, and it has been a huge pleasure to work with you all. Thank you for everything you have done for the Newcomers and for our town.

Thank you, also, to my husband, Jim, and to my family (Jane, Colin and Aidan), who have supported me with so much love, this past year and always.

A big thank you and shout out to the people who have been such big fans of my newsletter articles. (I won’t name you by name, but you know who you are!) Thanks for the regular ego boosts!

Finally, THANK YOU and congratulations to everyone on next year’s board. Especially the members of the Executive Board, who have made the commitment to lead this club. The Holliston Newcomers Club will be in good hands under the leadership of these wonderful people. I’m looking forward to a terrific year! In the meantime, I hope you all have a wonderful and safe summer!

Peace,

Barb Daly

From the Incoming President - Eileen Radcliffe:

Summer is almost here! This is such a busy time of the year, as kids finish school, plans are made for vacations, summer activities, camps, and the hope that we all hold for some relaxation in these next few months! I am very excited to be serving as President of Holliston Newcomers Club for the 2009/2010 year! I want to thank Barb and the wonderful board from last year for all of their hard work… it’s been a great year and we have some big shoes to fill! I want to thank also those of you who have volunteered your time to serve on the board this year. We have a great group of people ready to go, and I look forward to working with you all! I know that many of us are feeling the pinch of demands on our time and pocketbooks. Getting involved with Newcomers is a great way to give back to the community, meet new people, strengthen existing friendships, and have some inexpensive fun! There are so many ways to get involved: lots of social events for adults-only and families, civic activities that enable us to help the most needy in our community, playgroups, a book club—there is something for everyone. Everything is run by our members, who are volunteering their time. There are still some positions that need to be filled for the upcoming year, so please check out the openings in the Parliamentarian’s article and contact her or any of us if you are willing to get involved. You won’t be sorry! Before we take a break for the summer, we have a few events left in June. Please join us for the Installation Dinner on June 10. It is a fun way to welcome the new board members and thank the outgoing board members. Get the kids out for one last Children’s Day Trip to the Sherborn Playground on June 10. Please consider joining and/or supporting our Relay for Life team the weekend of June 13 and 14. Our first board meeting as a new board will be held at my house on Wednesday, June 24. All board and committee members need to attend this meeting to receive their notebooks and important information for the upcoming year. Socializing begins at 7:00 pm and the meeting will start promptly at 7:30 pm.

From our First Vice President:

I can’t believe it is almost summertime! I would like to thank you all for a truly wonderful year!

All members are invited to our annual Installation Dinner on Wednesday, June 10, at 7pm. This will be held at my house. Come hungry, as we will be serving dinner before installing our new board members! I hope you will come help us celebrate! Please RSVP to me if you plan to attend.

From our Second Vice President:

I hope everyone has a great summer! It is once again time to renew your membership. Membership runs from July 1 through June 30. Renewal is easy – you just need to complete the renewal form and mail it with your check!

Newcomers is “going green”! If you would like to receive your newsletter via email instead of paper, please email or call Karen Haynes

From our Corresponding Secretary:

Thanks for your help the past year keeping me up to date with "NEWS"! Please welcome our incoming Corresponding Secetary—Julie Kampersal!
If you hear news of a new baby, don't assume we know about it! Please let us know as soon as possible, that way the new mom will receive her home cooked meal from Community Outreach! It is a huge help to a new Mom! Keep the news comin g!

Please email or call me with any news or events you would like Newcomers to recognize. Thanks.

From our Parliamentarian:

We still have several positions open in Newcomers next year. If these positions do not get filled, then we will not be able to run these programs next year. Some of the positions such as Dinner Club provide nice opportunities for socializing while others provide more of a community service like Community Outreach, which provides meals for families in need. Please email me if you are interested in any of the open positions:

  • Hospitality (1)
  • House Tour (3-4)
  • Publicity (1)
  • Dinner Club (2)
  • Thanksgiving Baskets (1)
  • Community Outreach (3-4)

Please give me a call or email me if you are interested in any position or have any questions.
