    Message from the President

    Dear Newcomers,

I am hoping in April Spring will have truly have sprung and we have warmer days coming! There is a lot coming up in April so I hope everyone joins in on some of HNC’s great activities and events.

Before I jump into all that however, I want to extend a big thanks to everyone who helped out and made something for the Welcome Gathering on Saturday, March 15th especially Danielle Ohman and Kate Burnham who hosted with me. We were so happy to meet such wonderful families! The time flew by and we would have gone on, but the poor babysitters – lots of kids came! – needed to leave. Thanks all who came and look forward to seeing you again!

Also we received a lovely thank you letter from the Holliston Pantry Shelf for our gift of $1675 given to them! Keeps us motivated to keep on fundraising to continue to help when and where and how we can! Thanks to Lisa Brown for helping me run the Gingerbread House event (proceeds from which were the donation to the Pantry) and we will definitely be doing this again in December 2014 to give to our general Grant Fund for 2015.

    Onto April –

Please read Trystan’s article on CIC – we are very excited as the process swings into full gear and we have our Grant Night date set! It is Wednesday, May 7th!

We are also having a General Meeting on Wednesday April 9th for ALL MEMBERSHIP concerning Grants so please come to the Holliston Historical House at 7:30PM – please read Hannah’s article for more details on this meeting!

Book Club selection for April is Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg!

Betsy Maxwell is still recruiting for Easter Baskets and Paula DeMarkey for Easter Meals so please don’t hesitate to contact them if you’d like to be involved! Making a basket and an item for a meal is a big help and we need many volunteers, as well as help with assembly and delivery! Please note Fiske’s is offering a discount to HNC folks making Easter Baskets for donation – please contact Betsy or ask at Fiske’s for more details!

Also at Fiske’s – open or renew your existing Friends of Fiske’s membership between April 1st and April 30th and Fiske’s will give $5 for each membership to HNC! Another excuse to shop local and support a great local business while helping Newcomers! How easy is that?!

Craft Fair 2014 is already planning so don’t hesitate to contact one of the Ways & Means members to ask what you can do to participate in our largest fundraiser on November 23rd, 2014! Subcommittees are a great way to get involved and meet new friends!

The April Board Meeting date will be on Thursday April 17th so please make note! It is a little early this month as the following week is school vacation week.

Lastly, please be sure you are documenting all you do in a binder to pass onto the next committee person/people who take over if you are not.

We are formulating the nominating committee for next year and it is SO important we do our best to pour out all we have learned into a document we can hand-off as well as schedule time to talk through items with the new committee. I will be asking for electronic copies of all documents by committee event before the Installation Dinner so we have them stored for the future folks who need them! Thanks for your attention on this!

Take care and always, please contact me with any questions!
