Every
year, the Holliston Newcomers organizes a great project called Gifts for Giving
to provide gifts to local families who are in need during the holiday
season. We are fortunate to have the cooperation of the Holliston Food
Pantry to help us reach out through this project to our neighbors. In
recent years, the number of families who participate in this project has
increased tremendously as the town’s population has grown and economic
challenges have multiplied.
We are still seeking volunteers to help us make this project a success!
There are several ways you can volunteer and make a big difference in a child's
holiday season this year. Volunteers participate in this project by
"adopting" a child or several children in the same family and
providing gifts for them, by making a monetary donation, or by volunteering to
help with last-minute shopping. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
Volunteers who choose to "adopt" a child or children will be provided
with plenty of helpful information to make shopping for the gifts easy and
fun. Every family participating in Gifts for Giving will provide
information about their children—including their genders, ages, sizes, hobbies,
or interests—even suggestions for a specific gift. The spending guideline
for each child is approximately $25 on clothing and $25 on toys or other fun
items, for a total of $50 per child. Information for shopping will be
provided to volunteers by November 20—just in time for post-Thanksgiving
shopping! All gifts must be wrapped and delivered to a designated
committee member between December 7–9.
As noted, we are also very grateful for monetary donations if you are short on
time during the busy season, but would still like to help make a child's
holiday season special. All monetary donations may be sent to the
Holliston Newcomers Club, P.O. Box 6581, Holliston, MA 01746. Attn: Gifts for
Giving. Please send contributions by
December 5, 2012. Donations can also be made securely through PayPal in increments of $10:
This is truly an inspirational project and a wonderful Newcomers tradition that
makes a huge difference to many of our neighbors in need during the holiday
season. We are still in need of volunteers to help make it a
success. Please contact any of the committee members listed below if you
wish to volunteer and to be part of something truly special!
Many thanks, in advance, for your generosity and help!
